Byford Dolphin Update

The Byford Dolphin telescopic joint has been successfully stripped, inspected and re-dressed awaiting mobilisation back offshore, scheduled for early June 2012.

As part of this routine maintenance, the RedSeal packer system has been re-dressed and the packer topped up. The RedSeal packer will now go back into service fully refilled.

The strip down and re-dress of the Byford Dolphin telescopic joint also included the fitting of a inner barrel hydraulic latch mechanism. Considered together with the hydraulic latch, the RedSeal Packer System enhances the function of the Byford Dolphin telescopic joint greatly, reducing potential seal failure (and consequent environmental exposure) and potential operational down time whilst improving operational safety by reducing manual intervention and overside work.

Further operational updates shall be available in June once the telescopic joint is back in operational service.
